Subway Appoints Ex-Burger King Exec as New CEO – July 21, 2025

Subway is making big moves in the C-suite. The sandwich chain announced Monday that it has hired former Burger King COO Alicia Ramos as its new Chief Executive Officer, signaling an aggressive pivot toward modernization and global growth.

Ramos brings over 20 years of experience in fast food operations, digital expansion, and franchise management. At Burger King, she was instrumental in revamping mobile ordering systems and driving store-level profitability.

In her first statement as CEO, Ramos said she plans to focus on “menu innovation, tech integration, and strengthening franchisee relationships.”

Subway has struggled to regain momentum in recent years amid rising competition from Panera, Firehouse Subs, and newer gourmet sandwich startups. The company also faced public image challenges related to past leadership and inconsistent store quality.

But 2025 could mark a turning point. Earlier this year, Subway launched a pilot AI-powered ordering system and introduced several new sandwich options that were well received.

Investors are optimistic that Ramos can bring the kind of focused leadership Subway needs. The company’s private equity owners are reportedly considering a public offering in 2026 — a move that would hinge on operational turnaround and digital growth.

With over 37,000 locations globally, Subway remains one of the largest fast-food brands by store count. But in a shifting consumer landscape, it’s clear that reinvention is no longer optional — it’s essential.
